Snapper Season is Here & Nothing Beats Fishing with a Few mates . On this Day we Went fishing In Australia's Port phillip Bay To catch some Snapper . We used Our Sounder To find a School Of snapper of Seaford Victoira . The sounder we Used was Lowrance Chirp which is a Great sounder to use To Mark up Snapper. The Best Types of bait For snapper fishing is fresh bait but Servo Pilchard's are great to use , i like the W.a Supa Pillchards by gotcha bait they are Fantastic . For are Fishing rods i like to use a shimano Sonic pro 4-6kg But this is a lite Rod and if your Begining to Target fish / Snapper i suggest a heavy Rod in the 6-8kg range or a 8 to 10kg Rod . The problem Fishing this light is Some Times you will Hook On to a Ray or a shark and Getting to the boat takes up Time where you could be fishing for snapper. The Fishing Line Usd is Berkley 17lb Mono . which is Ok but is a bit Light for snapper . The Fishing Reel Combo Used is a Shimano Sonic pro Matched Up with a shimano Sienna 4000 they are a good reel for the price . I have Spare Spools so when i fish for whitting in western port i Change to 20lb Braid and away i go . This Snapper was Caught On Reedy's Rigz We Bagged Out this Night and had a fantasic night Catching Snapper in 13.5 meters Deep of Seaford/frankston . you can find Some of the fishing tackle on the Links Below snelled Rigs are Great for port phillip bay But its also a Great idea to have 1 Flasher Rig Or snapper Snatcher on your four rod Spread . While it has been a tough season if you get out and just go look for a snapper you might find yourself hooked up to a port phillip bay red . using our sounder we sound up the fish before we anchor which is exermly important this year with the numbers of snapper been  a bit lower then normal  rigged with snelled rigs and flasher rigs . it still is pretty easy to catch your self a nice red duing the november month and leading all the way up to xmas .

Melbourne Snapper 2015 Fishing Early Season Big Red Port Phillip Bay 90c...

Melbourne Snapper 2015 September with Big reds on my mind i  Launched my boat at mornington . Drove out to the Shipping channel and started sounding up for some snapper .The burometer was extremley high peaking at 1039 and was not to concerned about tide changes . I Knew if i put the effort in and could find the fish i would be a great chance of catching and coming home with an earley season snapper . I sounded for about half an hour and found 1 decent looking arch. I decided to anchor just up wind of the fish . I was a bit concerned about  getting smashed be small flathead so my baits were large supa pillchard and silver whiting hopfelly keeping the small fish away from my baits . Anchored and put my spread of fishing rods Out . burley up with a combonation of fish pellets and tuna oil . we  had a quick bbq up the front of the boat  (while keeeping our eyes glued to the rods)  After about  20 mins the fishing rod buckled over and  i found myself hook up to the what i think is the first red of the season stoked !!! . But just 30 seconds into the fight the fish threw the hooks . Some what still confident i would get another go at a snapper and  sure enough two mins later the other rod bent over and i was hooked up again to a nice port phillip bay earley snapper .The fish gear combo i used to catch this 90cm red was a Shimano sienna 4000 reel spooled with 20lb line with a  Shimano sonic Pro 6-8 kg fishing rod pretty light gear for snapper but thats just how i fish . the fishing rig i was using a sliding rig by Reedy's rigz Snelled 5/0 Hooks (not there Flasher Rigs ) but they are good two .The new 6/0 Model is Awersome .

Fishing Rigs By REEDYS RIGZ have created 2 new unique rigs the WHITING WHISPEREA and the SURF RIG. These 2 fishing rigs are  based around a paternoster or dropper rig  and the lures are built into the hooks which give you a double chance of catching  fish because you  bait  the rig as well (and it acts like a fly lure in this case a "Live Prawn" ). The rig is tied on 30b leader with a swivel on one end and you place your sinker on the other end  then  tie it to your main fishing line , add bait  and you are fishing!

The Whiting Whispera targets whiting and smaller fish but can also be used for fresh water fishing and can catch many species including flathead, mullet, redfin, trout, bream, mackerel to name just a few.

Surf Rigs Using Flasher Lure Bait from The Beach 

Both the Whiting Whisperea and Surf Rig can be used from your local jetty, boat or from the rocks, Salmon and Tailor are amongst the main targets of the Surf Rigs.  They come into their own in the surf as it is like having 2 surf poppers on steroids when baited correctly, and salmon & tailor really go to town on these .
The fish I have caught on these rigs are  Flathead ,Salmon, Black  Bream, Yellow Fin Bream , Mullet ,Mackerel , Tailor ,Trout and Red Fin just to name a few .
The lure or fly seems to  give you that little extra bit to get the fish to come on  into a hot bite .
The best baits are simple, less is more and a small strip bait works a treat, pin it through the hooks once up one end  of your bait and away you go .
Just about everything  in the ocean eats prawns its truly a well thought out rig .
The rig has  size #4 hooks for whiting and 1/0 for the surf rig .

The whiting rig is a lot like a snapper  snatcher but it is on a smaller scale and to be honest it fishes  really well with the new Circle hooks that have been improved to suit a Whiting jaw . With winter here its a great time to fish the rig in fresh water for fresh water trout and red fin really take to this rig , I havent  done as much fishing with it in freshwater but dont be afraid to try new things you might just surprise yourself .
